First Italian Class Championships, 29-31 August 09

The first Italian O'pen BIC Class Championships were held from 29th to 31st August 2009 near Silvi Marina Sailing Club, in conjunction with Compagnia della Vela Pescara.


35 young competitors enrolled for three days of racing and fun.

The first day of the event got under way in light wind conditions, with 2 races for the U12 and 3 races for the U15.

Difficult weather conditions on the second day made racing impossible but our young sailors made the most of it with a full day of games.

C.V. Pescara organised a great evening, and the BIC Sport Promotion team entertained, as usual, all the young competitors, in keeping with the O'pen BIC fun spirit.


On the last day, the race committee was able to put in place a new regatta format which the young sailors and their coaches really appreciated, giving them the opportunity to show off their skills. The following sailors took first place in their respective divisions :

1° Boys under 12 - Mancini Riccardo F.V. Desenzano
1 ° Girls Under 12 - Porro Margherita A.N. Sebina
1° Boys Under 15 - Chincoli Davide A.N Sebina

The AGM of the National Class Association also took place during those three days, to vote the Committee for the 2010 season. Their main aim will be to prepare a working plan for the Italian Sailing Federation (the latter having recently validated the O'pen BIC as Recognised Class), in order to increase the number of young O'pen BIC sailors and to promote the boat among the clubs.
